Writing

Your writing lives in the center panel. Write freely, then link text to scaffold nodes to make your argument structure visible.

The editor

The writing surface is a rich-text editor with a toolbar at the top. Each project has one continuous document. There are no sections or page breaks.

Formatting

The toolbar provides standard formatting options:

  • Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough
  • Headings (H1, H2, H3)
  • Bullet lists and ordered lists
  • Blockquotes and code blocks
  • Math notation using LaTeX (inline and block) rendered with KaTeX
  • Superscript and subscript
  • Footnotes

Text direction (left-to-right or right-to-left) is detected automatically per paragraph. No manual toggle needed.

Linking text to the scaffold

Select any text in the editor, then use the link action to connect it to a scaffold node (thesis, claim, evidence, or counter-argument). Linked text highlights in the node's color when you select that node in the scaffold panel. Highlights are invisible by default so they don't distract while you write.

Editor controls

Controls at the bottom of the editor panel let you adjust:

  • Spellcheck -- Browser native spellcheck, on by default. Toggle it off if your document has specialized terminology.
  • Auto-save-- On by default. When off, the editor shows "Unsaved changes" and you can save manually with Cmd/Ctrl+S. A warning appears if you try to leave the page with unsaved changes.
  • Text size -- Increase or decrease the editor font size to your preference.

Import & export

Import existing work from Markdown (.md) or Word (.docx) files. Export your document in either format. Exports automatically append a formatted bibliography of your cited sources using your chosen citation style.
